After you listen to Jamiroquai's song do you think he is right or wrong?
Do we live in a virtual insanity or in an insane virtuality?
Do you agree with his line: "Futures are made of "virtual insanity" ?
Isa
Try to complete the song with the opposite sense of the original words, which were taken out(and are at the end of each line).

"Virtual Insanity" or "Insane Virtuality"?

Oh yeah, what we're living in (let me tell ya)
It's a ................. man can eat at all / wonder
When things are big that should be ................ / small
Who can tell what magic spells we'll be doing for us
And I'm giving all my ...................... to this world / love
Only to be told
I can't see
I can't breathe
No more will we be
And nothing's going to ....................... the way we live / change
Cos' we can always take but never give
And now that things are changing for the ................ / worse,
See, its a ......................... world we're living in / crazy
And I just can't see that half of us .......................... in sin / immersed
Is all we have to give these -
Futures made of virtual ...................... now / insanity
Always seem to, be govern'd by this love we have
For ...................... , twisting, our new technology / useless
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground
And I'm thinking what a mess we're in
Hard to know where to ..................... / begin
If I could slip the ........................ ties that earthly man has made / sickly
And now every mother, can choose the colour
Of her child
That's ..................... nature's way / not
Well that's what they said yesterday
There's nothing left to do but pray
I think it's time I found a new religion
Waoh - it's so insane
To synthesize another ...................... / strain
There's something in these
Futures that we have to be told.
Futures made of ........................... - now / virtual insanity
Always seem to, be govern'd by this love we have
For useless, twisting, our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground
Now there is no sound
If we all live underground
And now it's virtual insanity
Forget your ................................. / virtual reality
Oh, there's nothing so bad.
I know yeah
Of this .................................. , we're livin in. / virtual insanity
Has got to change, yeah
Things, will never be the same.
And I can't go on
While we're livin' in oh, oh virtual insanity
Oh, this world, has got to change
Cos I just, I just can't keep going on, it was virtual.
Virtual insanity that we're livin' in, that we're livin' in
That virtual insanity is what it is
........................ made of virtual insanity - now /Futures
Always seem to, be govern'd by this love we have
For useless, twisting, our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground
Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity
Living - Virtual Insanity
Virtual Insanity is what we're living in

After listening to the song "Virtual insanity", let's puzzle him up...

Are futures made of virtual insanity or are presents made of insane virtualities?

Hi falks!
Here I am again with that talk about women and tecnology...
(Clagravipe: "There she comes again!")(laughter :)
Yepp. I found out the most common MYTHS.

MYTH # 1: Women are emotional while tech is strictly logycal.
Myth # 2: Men are good at maths and machines while women have no clue about these.
Myth # 3: Men are the providers while women are nurturers.
Myth # 4: Technical women are unattractive, arrogant and abnormal.
Myth # 5: Women can't do it because they are made that way.
Myth # 6: Women aren't as good at visualizing as men, and, hence, don't make good engineers.

Question 1: Didn´t men (and some women) demand the socially defined role of the woman as nurturer for centuries?

What a mess in my mind!

Vokies; blogs; wikis, hot potatoes...

Just "healthy food"...

Time for chips; chocolates; soda - a little bit of "junk food", please!

I'm joking...

Loads of kisses and hugs!

Nice sunday!

The time has come and we have to talk about it and most of all enjoy it. Yes, I'm talking about Christmas! A time to give, a time to cherish, a time for family and friends, a time for hope, a time when our dreams come true... or don't you believe it?
If you don't, then this video is the right one for you!
Believe it or not, all I want is to wish you...

And I hope you become a believer just like me... Watch this video to learn how you can do that and solve the quiz!

Teach or learn?

I used this video as motivation and brainstorming exercise. It's a very rich video-clip. Students watch the video, later they identify scenes of discrimination and finally they discuss it comparing with the message of Martin Luther King's speech "I have a dream".

Following our last training session we found this video: Blog vs Wiki.
Watch it and comment.

A LISTENING EXERCISE on BLOGS VS WIKIS: A fictitious debate

Watch the video and accomplish the following tasks:

A. Tick TRUE or FALSE:

1. Wikis and Blogs are very alike since they allow communication between people.
2. Communication through blogs is done in the form of comments.
3. Kennedy thinks that what America really needs now are blogs.
4. Nixon disagrees because blogs allow the administrator to control the information available.
5. According to Nixon, wikis are particularly susceptible to internet predators.

B. Complete the text (Kennedy’s second intervention):

"(…) the openness of a _____________ is a great example of freedom of ______________ that we get from a __________________. The voice of the people should not be _________________ .
Not only is a blog __________________ ,but they are unconstitutional in that they don’t _____________ freedom of speech. Mr. Nixon have you answered to the recently ___________________ charges that you pay people to put _______________ comments on your blog?"

Read the following text very carefully:
Mobile phones are everywhere. You can’t miss them… You can hear them… They are teenagers’ inseparable tools.Text messaging is essential for most teens. 96% of British students under 16 who have a mobile phone use their phones to send text messages. “Texting” is cheaper and more private than making calls. There is a whole new language to learn. Nosey parents or teachers can’t understand it. For most adults this language is a code that only teenagers can handle. It can cause problems in class as the owners of mobile phones spend more time sending and reading their messages than listening to their teachers. “You really need to have a social life.” says Rachel. “And text messaging is cheaper so I use it a lot more than phoning. The coolest thing is that my parents can’t read my messages. Isn’t that XLNT and GR8? :-) ?”

A.
Now answer the following questions.

1.
How popular is text messaging among British students?
2.
Can anyone read and understand the messages? Why (not)?
3.
What are the advantages of text messaging according to Rachel?
4.
What kind of trouble can it cause in class?

B.
Complete the sentences according to the information in the text.

1.
Many British parents believe that ...........................................................
2.
........................................................................... is an essential part of teens’ life.
3.
Teenagers prefer sending messages because .......................................

Dear colleagues, this training sessions aroused my curiousity to find reasons why women remain invisible as far as using technology is concerned. Let's redeem women's reputation...
There are cultural reasons. Society pressures women to look and behave in certain ways!
